Volume profile and the value area
| Term | Meaning |

| TPO | Time price opportunity — how long price spent at each level |
| POC | Point of control — the price with the most volume |
| Value area | The range containing about 70% of the volume |
| VAH / VAL | The high and low edges of that range |
| Delta | Volume traded at the ask minus volume at the bid |
| Footprint chart | Volume at bid and ask inside each candle |
| DOM | Depth of market — the live order book |
The underlying idea is sound and does not need special data: price levels where a lot of business was done matter more than levels where little was. A volume profile makes that visible in a way a time-based chart cannot.
